Kensington & Chelsea District School, gymnasium
In 1876, the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea established a District School for pauper children at Banstead, Surrey (later known as Beechholme). As well as cottage homes, each housing 40 children, the site had its own schools, infirmary, chapel, swimming pool, and gymnasium. Here are members of the school's gymnastic team showing off their skills. The stage at the far end suggests the gym was also a venue for other activities
