Manchester Union Schools, Swinton
The Manchester Union Industrial School at Swinton. The school, where 800 pauper children were housed and educated away from the workhouse, was established in 1843, one of the earliest of its type. It was the subject of the article A Day in a Pauper Palace by Charles Dickens
