Shoreditch Cottage Homes, Hornchurch, Essex
Superintendent's house (right) at the Shoreditch Union cottage homes, Hornchurch, Essex. Opened in 1889 to house pauper children away from the workhouse, the homes were in the style of a village street - eleven cottages each housed 30 children. There were also schools, a swimming bath, band room, needlework room, workshops, and infirmary
