Aerial view of Shotley Bridge Hospital, County Durham. It was originally opened by the Gateshead Union in 1912 as a TB sanatorium (far right of picture), with accommodation for elderly and infirm workhouse inmates added later (upper half of picture). The site later became a mental defectives colony'. During World War Two, Emergency Medical Scheme wards were erected (lower part of picture)
