Bandits robbing the church of Montmajor (20 January

History of banditry. Catalonia, 19th century. On 20 January 1849, bandits, whose leader was the Coix d'Avia, entered the church of Montmajor (Bergueda region) while the rector was in the confessional. After burning his face with a lit candle, they stole money and silver objects. The Coix d'Avia was a bandit from the village of Avia who, together with his gang, committed crimes in the Bergueda region in the mid-19th century. We want more money, said the bandit, applying a lighted candle burning to the face of the rector. Engraving. Historia de las Escuadras de Cataluna, 1876
