History of Banditry. Catalonia. Josep Ferrer de Belltall was kidnapped on 2 October 1848, while he was returning home in Belltall from the town of Verdu. The gang of the bandit Ramon Costa el Corona assaulted him at partida del Mur. After assaulting him, they took Ferrer to a wooded area near Guimera. There they forced him to write a letter to his family asking for a sum of money in exchange for his ransom. Frightened to believe that the Squadrons of Catalonia were trying to locate his whereabouts, they decided to flee the place, but not before killing the kidnapped man. However, they continued to demand the ransom from the family as if Ferrer was still alive. Eventually all the members of the bandit gang were captured.
