History of Spain. First Carlist War (1833-1840). First Siege of Bilbao (1835). The Carlist troops besieged the city between 10 and 11 June 1835, which was defended by the Liberal army which had organised the National Militia. The Carlist leader Tomas Zumalacarregui (1788-1835) was wounded in the leg on 15 June and died on the 24th.
