Spain. First Carlist War (1833-1840). Civil war that confronted Carlists, supporters of the Infante Carlos Maria Isidro de Borbon, against the Isabelinos (Elizabethans), defenders of Isabel II and the regent Maria Cristina de Borbon. At the beginning of December 1833, Colonel Saturnino Albin pursued the Carlist general Juan Manuel de Balmaseda (1801-1846).
