History of Spain. First Carlist War (1833-1840). Third Siege of Bilbao (5 November to 25 December 1836). Taking of the bridge of Luchana. On 22 December 1836, General Espartero began operations in the vicinity of the bridge of Luchana, which was under Carlist control. On the afternoon of 24 December, with the help of two British ships, General Oraa attempted to take the bridge, although he was refused by the Carlists.
