Pedro Antonio Veciana (Pere Anton Veciana i Rabassa)
Pedro Antonio Veciana (Pere Anton Veciana i Rabassa) (Sarral, ca. 1682-Valls, 1736). Catalan peasant and politician. A supporter of Philip V, he settled in Valls where in 1718 fought against the guerrillas who were rising up against the Bourbons. In 1719 he organised a squadron to defend the town of Valls. Its efficacy meant that it remained a permanent defence corps under his command. He was appointed first commander of the Escuadras de Cataluna (Squadrons of Catalonia). Portrait. Engraving. Historia de las Escuadras de Cataluna, 1876
