Siege of Gerona (Girona) (27 June to 10 September

Siege of Gerona (Girona) (27 June to 10 September 1285). Acommplished by the French during the Crusade called by Pope Martin IV (1220-1285) against the Crown of Aragon, whose king was Peter III the Great (1240-1285), in retribution of his intervention in Sicily. Girona was defended by Ramon Folch VI of Cardona (1259-1320). As he did not receive reinforcements from King Peter III to break the siege, he had to surrender. The town was taken by Eustache Beaumarchais (ca. 1235-1294). After signing the capitulation, the troops of Ramon Folch VI of Cardona evacuated the city. Engraving. Glorias Espanolas (Glories of Spain). Volume II. Published in Barcelona, 1890
