Canadian infantry 1916
Soldiers of the 46th Canadian Infantry Battalion remove their puttees and put on rubber waders in preparation for the muddy trenches near Pozieres, during the Battle of Ancres in the final phase of the Battle of the Somme. The 46th Battalion suffered such a high casualty rate during the war that it became known as the Suicide Battalion
