Emir Faisal (1883-1933) at Wejh (now in Saudi Arabia) during the First World War. He later became Faisal I of Iraq. He directed the Arab revolt against the Ottomans in 1916 and became King of Syria in 1920. Expelled from Damas by the French, he became King of Iraq in 1921, supported by the English
