The Hohenzollern Redoubt
Craters formed by the blowing up of four mines on 2nd March 1916 under trenches in the Hohenzollern Redoubt, a German fortification on the Western Front, near Auchy-les-Mines, France. Shortly before 6 p.m. 32, 000 lbs of explosives were detonated, and the 8th and 9th Royal Fusiliers attacked, with support from the 7th Royal Sussex and 11th Middlesex Battalions. After fierce battle and several German counter-attacks the strategically valuable position was taken
