Nedeljko Cabrinovic, Serbian nationalist

Nedeljko Cabrinovic (1895-1916), Serbian nationalist, a member of the nationalist Young Bosnia movement, who attempted to assassinate Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria, on 28 June 1914 during his visit to Sarajevo. He threw a bomb, but mistimed it, and it exploded near a following car. Later the same day, Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke and his wife. Cabrinovic was arrested for his part in the plot, and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, but died of tuberculosis in prison. The assassination was the catalyst which led to the start of the First World War
