Oswald Boelcke, German aviator
Oswald Boelcke (1891 - 1916), German flying ace of World War One. Boelcke is considered the father of the German fighter air force, and first to formalize rules of air fighting, which he presented as the Dicta Boelcke. He taught Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. Photographed here after landing his Fokker monoplane type E.III, seen in the distance
