Portrait bust of T E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia)
Portrait bust of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia, 1888-1935), British Army officer best known for his liaison role during the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule of 1916-1918. It was made in 1926 by Eric Kennington, an official war artist in both World Wars. He was a friend of Lawrence's, and was one of the pall bearers at his funeral. This is a plaster cast version of the bust, which was cast in bronze -- five castings in total were made in 1926, with further castings in 1961, after the artist's death
