A Peregrine Falcon, historically known in North America as an American duck hawk, striking a wild duck in mid-flight. Raymond Sheppard notes below the drawing that the stoop of this bird is reckoned to be about the fastest speed achieved by a living bird - somewhere in the region of about 120mph'. The bird's attacking speed has since been measured at 200mph
