Slate milestone, Pen y Gwryd, North Wales
A fine example of an early 19th century slate milestone, standing by the roadside at Pen y Gwryd, near Llanberis, Caernarvonshire (now Gwynedd), North Wales. A Roman camp stood on the rising ground just behind it, the Glyderau or Glyder range (Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr and other peaks, part of the Snowdonia National Park) can be seen in the distance, and there is a mountain rescue post nearby
