Nina Mae McKinney. Nina Mae McKinney (1913-1967) was the first African American actress to star in a Hollywood film Hallelujah! (1929). In the 1930s she worked mostly in the UK in films and on stage. She was also a television pioneer with her own shows on pre-war BBC
