Workmen at Baden Powell House, South Kensington, London
Two workmen looking at an architectural plan on the site of Baden Powell House, Queen's Gate, South Kensington, London. They are Stan Strowbridge (left), Foreman Carpenter and ex-Scout (12th Hammersmith), and Syd Edmonds (right), General Foreman and ex-Boys Brigade (Stockwell). The site was acquired in 1956, and Ralph Tubbs was appointed architect. The foundation stone was laid by Lady Olave Baden Powell in 1959, and the building was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1961. The building received a number of awards. It is still used today as a scouting hostel and conference venue
