Adolf Hitler at the Bayreuth Festival, 1940
On the left are Wilhelm Bruckner, Hitler's chief adjutant until that year, Winifred Wagner's son Wolfgang, the festival director Winifred Wagner, Richard Wagner's daughter-in-law, an SS man from Hitler's bodyguard (Fuhrerbegleitkommando), Adolf Hitler and Richard Wagner's eldest son and grandson Wieland. Wolfgang later withdrew his mother's right to attend the festival when he was the director himself, after she repeatedly showed herself to be an old Nazi. Even without a year, this picture would easily date to 1940, as Hitler wore tails at the festival until that year. With the start of the war, he changed his wardrobe to a military uniform, which he hung with EK I and the wounded badge and thus wanted to be publicly perceived as a commander
