Adolf Hitler and Max Schmeling, 1935
Adolf Hitler and Max Schmeling looking at the sports section of the newspaper. Despite Schmeling's distance to the Nazis, he could not avoid being misused by them for propaganda purposes, because as a popular sportsman he was an ideal projection figure for them. After he had refused to separate from his Czech wife and his Jewish adviser he let himself be used for advertising purposes for the Olympic Games in Berlin. Since these events took place in 1935, this picture may be seen in this context
