Adolf Hitler receives General Keitel, 1938

Colonel General Wilhelm Keitel at a reception in the new Reich Chancellery in 1939, where he was awarded the Knight's Cross for his services during the Polish campaign. Keitel was one of the first recipients of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, along with several other generals of the Polish campaign. The Knight's Cross had only been endowed by Hitler on 01 September
