In 1917 Vimyhoehe was fiercely contested and was finally taken by Canadian soldiers of the British Expeditionary Corps. Hitler visits the Canadian National Memorial in Vimy together with the Chief of OKW, Keitel, and his adjutant Julius Schaub (to Hitler's right), as well as General Jodl, and General von Kluge
