African Falange in Paris, 1942

At the beginning of November 1942, the Allies, consisting of the armies of the Americans, the British and the French Forces francaises libres (Free French Forces), launched an attack on the coast of North Africa, which until then had been under the control of the Vichy regime. The photograph shows a registration office and many volunteers who want to join a volunteer legion (African Falange) in Vichy, France to defend North Africa. Phalange Africaine (African phalanx) is possibly inspired by the fascist movement Falange in Spain that existed between 1933 and 1937
