Airship Deutschland before a test trip, 1896
In 1879, Georg Baumgarten began to design an airship. After his death (1883) the work was continued by Dr. Woelfert. The first trip of the Deutschland took place on 06/05/1896. During a navigation test on 06.12.1897, there was an explosion in the airship, wherein Dr. Woelfert suffered a fatal accident
