The airship Parseval I. above Metz, 1906
The non-rigid blimp Parseval I. upon its arrival to the new stationing place in the Lotharingian Metz, that then as a Reichsland belonged to the German Reich and where a balloon battalion of the German army has stationed. Unlike the Zeppelin type in which a rigid framework ensured the external shape stability, in this Parseval the airship shell was ensured by the overpressure of the buoyant gas. After the first successful ascent on 26/05/1906 August Franz Max von Parseval built in Bitterfeld a total of 23 rigid airships
