Albert V, Duke of Bavaria - Albrecht V. der Grossmutige

This youth portrait of Albrecht V, The Magnanimous, Duke of Bavaria, was painted by Hans Mielich and can be found in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. Albrecht's parents were Duke Wilhelm IV and Maria Jakobaea of Baden. In 1546 he married Anna, the daughter of Emperor Ferdinand. Albrecht was considered a patron of the arts and was responsible for the development of Munich into a city of arts. He campaigned for the denominational unity of the country. He was the first ruler on whom was implemented the Primogeniturordnung (primogeniture law), the indivisibility of the Duchy. He was a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece, a knightly order awarded by the Emperor for special deeds
