American National Guardsmen try out a motorized sled, 1940

Two members of the Massachusetts National Guard attempt to use a motorized sled, after they learned that the Soviet combat forces used sleds like this one in the Finnish theater of war. They built the sled themselves and even decorated it with a hammer and sickle after the model in the Red Army. They are wearing German steel helmets from WWI
