Armed British steamship, 1915

Against the threat of submarines, cargo ships were armed with guns. The guns were a danger to the boats since the submarines appeared to approach freighters before the move to the unrestricted submarine war, in order to check them or to sink them with the guns. Representation from the Illustrated War News of 07.04.1915
