Austrian imperial crown

This Austrian imperial crown is a major work of the European goldsmiths. It was made in 1602 in Prague, as a private crown for Emperor Rudolf II, who reigned from 1576 as a Roman-German Emperor. The goldsmith Jan Vermeyen from Antwerp was appointed to the Imperial Residence in Prague, specifically for this task. When Emperor Franz II proclaimed the Empire of Austria on 11.08.1804, the old House Crown of the Habsburgs became the Austrian imperial crown. However, it was never used for a coronation, because this was not necessary for the legitimacy of the Austrian emperor
