Benito Mussolini at harvest work south of Rome, 1935

Benito Mussolini liked to stage himself in various roles: here on a hot day in 1935 as a helper during harvesting work in the area of the Pontine Marshes south of Rome, which he himself had ordered to be drained. Mussolini goes to work bare-chested, protected by goggles and a straw hat. The drained sample fields were to suggest the success of the fascist regime
