The Boma in Liwale, 1904
The picture shows a boma, a fort with palisade protection, which was fiercely contested during the Herero uprising of 1905. Boma is an expression of the Swahili language for a fortified building. In colonial times, these were mostly the seats of the administrations, so that the term gain currency for the local administrative properties
