Border between Poland and Gdansk

This photograph shows Polish farmers taking goods across the border to Gdansk. Although Danzig was recognized as a Free City after the First World War, the port, customs and railway connections were placed under Polish administration. In addition, Poland set up an ammunition warehouse in the Gdansk harbor and set up a Polish post office in the port of Gdansk. These measures led to massive resentment on the part of the Gdansk population
