Bunker construction in Kholm, 1942

Two German soldiers build a bunker in the enclosed city from a bomb crater. Every day the Soviet artillery fires on the town. During the encirclement battle of Cholm, the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the city for 105 days. (A photo of the Propaganda Company (PK) by war correspondent Richard Muck, who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March)
