 : Burst provisions bomb, 1942

Burst provisions bomb, 1942

A German soldier examines the provisions bomb that cracked on impact. By dropping such bombs daily, the encircled German soldiers in Kholm were supplied with food, ammunition and equipment from the air for more than 3 months. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days. (A photo of the Propaganda Company (PK) by war correspondent Richard Muck, who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March)
