View of the cable railway tracks on Mt. Vesuvius. The last stretch is visible and features a steep incline. The cable railway brings the travelers up to the edge of the crater. Vesuvius (Italian: Vesuvio) is a composite volcano made of lava and tuff. In the north lies the old cone, Monte Somma, (1132 meters) on the edge of which an observatory is located at a height of 608 meters
