Canal construction between the Spree and Dahme, 1934
A 3 km long and 36 meter wide canal was dug between the Spree and the Dahme in order to complete the water sports facility for the 1936 Olympics without interruption and also to be able to employ many people in a job creation scheme. The ship traffic from Upper Silesia was supposed to be diverted to this canal on the Spree
