Captive Arab slave traders in German East Africa, 1888
Arab fighters detained by the Germans in German East Africa being paraded in chains for a trial. In 1888 and 1889 they had resisted the German colonial administration under the rebellion known as the Abushiri revolt'. The Arabs had settled as slave traders on the east coast of Africa, after the Omani sultan had relocated his capital in 1840 to Zanzibar
