Carl Friedrih goerdeler and Adolf Hitler, 1933

The then Lord Mayor of Leipzig Carl Friedrich Goerdeler in the Leipzig Gewandhaus on the occasion of the Richard Wagner celebration on the 50th anniversary of his death with Adolf Hitler. Goerdeler belonged to the civil resistance around the group led by Count Stauffenberg from the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944, and as a result was executed in Berlin Plotzensee in early 1945. The Goerdeler Circle resistance network named after him made early efforts in the fight against National Socialism. Goerdeler himself resigned from his post as Leipzig Ob as early as 1936 in protest against the Nazi regime
