Carl Schurz during the Civil War, 1862/63
Carl Schurz (1829-1906), German-born American politician and journalist. He was member of the Republican Party since 1860 and in the years 1877-81 American Interior Minister. Schurz fought during the secession war (American Civil War) on the part of Union troops among others during the winter campaign 1862/63 in the Battle of Fredericksburg
