Charles Dawes before the Economic Committee of the American

Charles Gates Dawes (standing), former U.S. ambassador to London, before the Economic Committee of the American Parliament. He fights against the intention of the Committee, to pay in advance the so-called bonus, the special allowance which was entitled to the veterans for their military service actually only since 1940. Due to the global economic crisis the veterans demanded to bring forward the payment of the bonus or at least the ability to lend money on the bonus. In early January 1932 Dawes was appointed head of the new Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC). However he resigned from this office already in June 1932 for personal reasons, to resume his work as a banker in Chicago
