The Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Old Goa. Goa that belonged to the Sultanate of Bijapur from the end of the 15th century, in 1510 became Portuguese territory. After being occupied by Indian troops (1961) Goa received the status of an Indian Union Territory. In 1987 Goa became the state of the Indian Union
