This was the place where German Junkers Ju 52 transport aircrafts with the paintwork of the German Condor Legion started their flight loaded with Moroccan soldiers to the Spanish mainland from. After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War on July 27, 1936, Germany provided military assistance to General Franco (Operation Feuerzeauber). In addition, 20 Ju-52s (mostly Lufthansa aircrafts) were provided, which flew more than 800 flights of Spanish national troops, including 14, 000 Moroccan foreign legionaries (Fuerzas Regulares Indigenas), and materials from Morocco to Cadiz and Malaga
