Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels and Heinrich Himmler together with Protestant clergymen at Horst Wessel's grave in the Nikolai Cemetery. Goebbels propaganda stylized Wessel as a martyr of the movement and called him the Christ Socialist, thus bringing him close to Jesus Christ. The churches, such as the Lutheran clergy here, made their contribution to this
