Constantin Stanislavski (1863-1938), Russian actor and theater director, in 1898 co-founder and director of the Moscow Art Theatre. His early productions (including Chekhov) are the international highlights of the psychological and naturalistic illusion theater. As a teacher he was a trendsetter with his method: The exact performance of external (physical) actions should lead to an intense reliving of the role and associated with the impression of naturalness and credibility.
