Czech foreign workers in Falkensee near Berlin, 1939
Workers from the occupied Czech Republic ('Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia'), who were housed in a camp in Falkensee near Berlin and worked in Reichsbahn projects, during their evening free time reading newspapers in Czech and German (the Nachtausgabe (Night Edition) of the Scherl publisher house, who ordered the series). The photo which was made shortly before the outbreak of war, was intended to make a positive presentation of the camp, however the reality of the often forcibly recruited workers could be significantly different
