Dead soldiers at the gates of Kholm, 1942
Bodies of Soviet soldiers lie on an unpaved road. In the background there is a tank destroyed by a German anti-tank gun. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the town for 105 days.
