Beside thousands of killed soldiers the whole city of Kholm is destroyed. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the city for 105 days. (PK photo by the war correspondent Richard Muck who flew into the pocket at the beginning of March)
